The Drive
We decided that the best way to explore the island of Tahaa was by car. So, after a brief skip across the waters, we were greeted by a car rental agent who awaited for our arrival at the dock. We had an entire day to drive around and leisurely (and may I stress leisurely) experience a sleepy island that didn't have a street sign or stop light. But then again, who needs signs and lights when the roads only go in circles around the island?  And so began our journey.
Our car never had to go beyond third gear.
Our first stop was at a pearl farm on the east side of the island. Here, we were given a full demonstration of the making of the black pearl. We learned how an oyster is grown, how a nucleus is inserted into the oyster (ironically, the nucleus comes from Mississippi oysters), and the oysters are nurtured for up to 7 years to create up to 3 black pearls.
We also learned how the colors of the black pearls are determined, and how different shapes and sizes of pearls are created.

We also stopped by Snack Mac China, the only Chinese restaurant on the island, for lunch. We then went to Hotel Hibiscus (probably the only hotel that boasts that they speak German) for some dessert and drinks. We also visited another black pearl farm (south side).
And once again, we ended the day with a view of the sunset.
Snorkeling
The next day, we decided to soak up the sun and heat (and boy, do we mean heat!) for the afternoon. We pulled out the canoes and went for a short paddle along our motu.
The waves were virtually nonexistent as we paddled through the waters.

We were advised to go to the waters between the two motus (our island and Vahine Island).
In the distance, we could hear the waves crashing against the reef. But here, the waters are calm and protected from the harsh waves.

We explored the shallow waters found found sea life.
We even found an octopus.
We went back to our resort for fruit sorbets, ice cream and drinks to end another relaxing afternoon.
